The Back Porch
Yee Haw! Our First Annual Fall Family Fun Friday Night:
Harvest Hoedown and Hayride was a hit!
Thanks to all of the families that joined us! A special thanks to the nice folks at GoldenGael for so graciously allowing us the use of their farm!
Everyone brought generous and delicious items for our pot-luck dinner.
After our feast in the barn with bluegrass music in the background, we kicked off the fun with old fashioned sack races and three-legged races.
Next, the kids cooled off bobbing for apples.
Bradley and Brett shared a live rendition of "Boil 'dem cabbage down" on the guitar and banjo.
Then we kicked up our heels with the Owen family as we learned to dance the "Cotton-Eye Joe".
What could follow that but S'Mores around the fire pit?
We had so many folks we had to take two separate trips on the hayride.
Dwayne went with the first group (Brennan was driving the truck). They sang praise and worship songs and, as they marveled at the perfectly clear sky and great view of God's constellations, they actually saw a shooting star! I (Angie) went along with the second group. We didn't think to sing because we were laughing so hard. We did notice the stars, briefly, just before the bull in the pasture started charging our flat bed!!! We eventually made it out of the pasture safely. The part about choosing which hay ride to go on must have been in very small print on the event ticket...shooting star trip or...angry charging bull trip!
Everyone decided it's a must-do event for next year (no bull)! We hope to see you there!
